Is there a Pokémon move that protects both Pokémon?
Wide Guard protects all Pokémon on the user’s side of the field for the rest of that turn from damaging moves that can target multiple Pokémon, even those used by an ally that strike all Pokémon on the field (such as Earthquake and Surf).
Is protect useful Pokémon?
Pretty useless for in-game, it has strategic value in the metagame though, particularly on stall teams that rely on turn damage from status (i.e Toxic Poison) and entry hazards, it can also give free turns of leftovers healing, classic Stallrein is a good example of a Pokemon that can use Protect to great ends.

There is NO meaningful difference between Detect and Protect – Detect is just a fighting type while Protect is a normal type (and has more pp). Their effects are exactly the same, through different Pokemon may not be able to learn one, bu are able to learn the other.

Can you have protect and detect?
No. The only actual difference is PP (5/8 vs 10/16). Some Pokémon can learn Detect and some can only learn Protect. A Pokémon with Imprison can stop Protect if the Pokémon also has the move, so I guess in this instance it’s good to have Detect.

Wide Guard- is another alternative to Protect. However, Wide Guard protects against specific moves, specifically moves which have more than one target such as Surf & Earthquake. In addition to protecting the user, it protects all of the user’s allies in battle for that turn.
